少年時代、わたしは岩波文庫本の名原広三郎訳でこのヴィラネルに熱をあげたが、同じ詩は今は別の訳で（たとえば大澤正佳訳で）多くの少年少女を陶酔させてゐることだらう。もちろん原文でも。（中略）そしてこの詩形をよみがへらせたのがジョイスであることは、ヴィラネル形式を酷愛するエンプソンが認めてゐることだ。
